Interiors Trends for 2020: Part Two

After looking at what colours we might see in interiors this year, it’s also important to consider the finer details. Whether these are in prints and patterns or in decorative accessories, there are trends that come back around as well as brand new ideas that appear slowly throughout the year or that burst onto the scene quite suddenly

Animal Print

By this, I don’t mean covering everything in leopard print! Some of our most popular items and accessories in the shop incorporate animal prints and patterns as they’re such an easy way to add a bit of colour to a house. Exotic jungle animals on lampshades, monkey bookends or vases with zebra patterns help to fill space and tie colour schemes together. Vibrant jewel colours and mixed materials are a perfect way to add a bit of personality to a room- and it’s so easy to change them around.

Contrasts

White kitchens have been a go-to look for the last decade but 2020 is already seeing an interest in bold contrasts. Monochrome or navy and grey; creating contrasts with colours adds a certain amount of drama to rooms, particularly those in which materials like wood, marble and plaster take precedence over fabric. Dark fireplaces against white walls, dark varnished oak floorboards with softer furniture- all of these provide a satisfying symmetry to design; a space of two halves as it were.

I also think we’ll see some decorated ceilings. There was a bit of interest in this towards the end of last year with bold painted ceilings against white walls but I think 2020 will see an increase in wallpapered ceilings- it’s a space that is often overlooked as one that can make a real statement. The size makes a ceiling quite a fun place to experiment with patterns and colours, and working around period features like cornices or lighting fixtures adds a little extra challenge…which I love.
